Vegan Eateries in Title Town

Hey guys!

Have I talked to ya’ll since I went vegan?! I don’t believe so. It has been 9 months! I can’t believe it either. I feel a lot better, and I’m about 16 pounds lighter AND it adds another layer of adventure when I’m traveling. It is most definitely challenging but I treat it as somewhat of a scavenger hunt.

I don’t know about ya’ll, but I like to eat at restaurants that are unique to the location when I am traveling. I steer clear of the chain restaurants when at all possible. I will make a point to compile a list as I travel for those of my fellow traveling vegans out there. Downloading the Happy Cow app has definitely helped out A LOT! To save you the trouble, I’ll keep a running list for you. [insert winking emoji]

I moved to Tuscaloosa where college football reigns King Supreme and let me tell you...I’ve had to get back into the habit of cooking everyday (probably not a bad thing). You would think that a college town would have a vast array of healthy restaurants, then again we are in the South. There aren’t any strictly plant-based places around here, but there are options...kinda. I’ve only found a few places so far that actually have a full meal but I will keep you guys updated. All of the places listed below literally have 1 dish that is plant-based. So without further ado:

Falafel Gyro

Falafel Gyro or Veggie ($5 on Tuesdays!)

Hold the feta and tzatziki. Take your own sauce, the only vegan sauce they have is buffalo sauce. Ask them how they make their hummus.

*If you haven’t already, enroll in TrueBlue Dining and receive 1 airline mile per

dollar for eating this restaurant, to join click here*

Falafel, comes in a wrap with fries or as a main entreé with sides. They actually have hummus...kudos to them.

Custom seaweed roll from Ajian

Build your own sushi roll and get roasted tofu as your protein, hold the cream

cheese. As for the sauce, request sriracha.

Build your own poke bowl with marinated tofu

*TrueBlue Dining Participant

Call ahead or check their site, or Facebook for the daily menu offerings as it changes day-to-day, they may not always have a plant-based item on the menu. If you’re in a cooking mood, they have tons of vegan grocery items.

BONUS:

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a gourmet popsicle.

All of the fruit flavors are vegan friendly. They give you the option to “dust” your pop with additional flavor, add some espresso, cinnamon, cocoa, sea salt, nutmeg, or cayenne *gag*. They're somewhat of a chain, but hey it's good stuff. They also have a loyalty program, I'm a sucker for free stuff.

Also, check out Cravings downtown. They have some unique vegan snacks every once and while. It’s a smorgasbord of different types of food.

If I missed any, let me know so I can add it to the list. Talk to you guys later.

Demetria
