Hey guys!
I'm sure many of you have never heard of Sylacauga, it's a small town in Central Alabama. Growing up in Talladega, we're just "up the road." You won't find it on the interstate, it is off of Highway 280 or AL-21. Sylacauga is also known as "Marble City." Very small, quaint, and well preserved.
If you ever find your self anywhere near here, you HAVE to try Crowe's Chicken!!! It is on AL-21 next to the Marathon gas station. Someone brought me lunch from there and it was love at first bite. Talladega and Sylacauga are about 15 to 20 minutes away from each other. I used to make a run for Crowe's on my 30 minute lunch break. I always get the Chicken Salad Plate. That is the BEST chicken salad I have ever had in my entire life! I choose the Classic with dill and eggs, while others prefer it Southern style with the grapes and pecans. You cannot go wrong no matter what you choose, everything is delicious. The Chicken Salad Plate comes with your choice of chicken salad (Classic or Southern) and 2 sides. I enjoy the Pasta Salad and Pimento Cheese. Very affordable, it's only $8.50 after tax and it's enough food for 2 meals! The staff is always hospitable, everyone sings their praises. Hands down, they are 2 Girls Approved.
After stuffing your face with some good ol' Southern chicken, you need some dessert. Sylacauga is also home of a Blue Bell Ice Cream manufacturing facility. Blue Bell has been in the news lately, rest assured, it has been handled. They have recently been investigated, inspected and cleared by the FDA. While there, I encourage you can take a guided tour, visit their store, and ice cream parlor. It's about $3 per person for a 45 minute tour. More information about the tour and times can be found here.
I find pleasure in visiting small towns as much the big cities. A lot of big cities are overrated! Even if you're passing thru, stop by (notice I didn't say stay.) Tell me what you think. Have you every been to Sylacauga? What do you like to do? Where do you like to eat?
Until next time,
Demetria
